What Caused the Death of the Bicycle as a form of Transportation?

Lets face it there are bicycle commuters few and far between these days.  Has the thrill of the ride changed any over the course of the last 100 years? No.  Has the bike changed substantially in form from the early 1900's? No.  The energy changed.  If you know the laws of energy then you probably know it follows the path of lest resistance.  Since the human body is made up of hundreds of  thousands of energetic firings happening at all times throughout the body it seems logical that we to will follow the path of least resistance.

But unlike that massive lighting bolt streaking across the sky releasing it's protons and neutrons into the ground or surrounding atmosphere our bodies tend to store the extra energy as fat...  As the fight for oil continues and obesity climbs at an ever constant rate when will we see that following the easiest path does not always lead to the best results?

Peace
Pedal Strong!
